SANA FAMEFUND HISTORY

In 1998 Sindhi Association of North America (SANA) established an educational fund to tribute Dr. Feroz Ahmed.
Late Dr. Feroz Ahmed was a prominent Sindhi social scientist and educationist.
He dedicated his life for promoting justice, equal social, political, and economic rights for all individuals and nations.
He wrote extensively for about issues that relate to Sindh.

Through Dr. Feroz Ahmed Memorial Educational Fund (FAME Fund), SANA awards some exceptional Sindhi students in their pursuit of undergraduate
and post graduate studies at any university in Pakistan.

In 1998, SANA Executive Council formed a SANA FAME FUND Committee
The Committee members were:
    - Nisar Ali Shah
    - Manzoor Hussain Shah
    - Saghir Ahmed Shaikh

In 1998, SANA started awarding the 4 scholarships in the following categories:
    - 2 scholarships for Undergraduate studies in sciences - $250 each
    - 2 scholarships for Postgraduate studies in Social Sciences and Humanities - $500 each
    - Total 4 scholarships with total amount awarded $1500

Scholarships Award Process
SANA website sanalist.org covers complete information including application form
Applications are invited by making announcement on Sanalist, other Sindh related lists and in newspaper Kawish.
Applications must include, filled form, attested photo copies of the original certificates, hand written essay (preferably in Sindhi),
teachers’ references, and original copy of the family’s income

Scholarships Award Process
Applications are reviewed by all members of the Fund Committee, sorted in various categories, and ranked.
Successful applicants are announced on Sanalist. SANA Treasurer arrange transmittal of funds to the successful applicants individually on
their home address. Scholarships Funds are collected through SANA Community donations.

In 2003 the present FAME FUND Committee took charge, and for the academic year 2003-2004, managed to award 6 scholarships in the
following categories:
    - 4 scholarships for Undergraduate studies in sciences - $250 each
    - 2 scholarships for Postgraduate studies in Social Sciences and Humanities - $500 each.
    - Total amount awarded $2,000.00

For the academic year 2004-2005, the SANA FAME Scholarships were increased to 13 in the following categories:
    - 11 scholarships for Undergraduate studies in sciences - $250 each
    - 2 scholarships for Postgraduate studies in Social Sciences and Humanities - $500 each.
    - Total amount awarded $3,796.00

For the academic year 2005-2006, the SANA FAME Scholarships were increased to 24:
     - 16 scholarships for Undergraduate studies in sciences - $250 each
     - 4 scholarships for Postgraduate studies in Social Sciences and Humanities - $500 each.
     - One scholarship for undergraduate studies in Sindhi Language, Sindhi literature, Sindh History, etc. - $250.00
     - One Scholarship for Postgraduate studies in Sindhi Language, Sindhi literature, Sindh History, etc. - $500.00
     - 2 Scholarships for Nursing College Students. - $250.00 each
     - Total amount awarded $7,250.00

SANA FAME Scholarships Report for acedamic year 2006-2007

For the academic year 2006-2007, the SANA FAME Committee decided to increase the scholarships to 40.
     - In October 2007, SANA announced invitation of applications for 40 scholarships.
     - 155 applications received.
     - Due to limited amount collected, only 37 Scholarships were awarded in May & June 2007.
     - Total amount awarded $10,597.00

For the academic year 2006-2007 the 37 scholarships were awarded in the following categories:
     - 25 scholarships for Undergraduate studies in sciences - $250 each
     - 3 scholarships for Postgraduate studies in Social Sciences and Humanities      - $500 each.
     - 2 Scholarships for Postgraduate studies in Sindhi Language, Sindhi literature, Sindh History, etc. - $500.00
     - One scholarship for undergraduate studies in Sindhi Language, Sindhi literature, Sindh History, etc. - $250.00
     - 4 Scholarships for Nursing College Students. - $250.00 each
     - 2 Scholarships for undergraduate studies in Pharmacy each 250.00

Procedure
Applications were invited through announcement on Sanalist, Sindh based lists, and Newspapers in Sindh, such as Kawish.
Each application is to be attached with attested copies of educational certificates, income certificate, and an hand-written essay, preferably in Sindhi.
Applications checked by the SANA FAME Fund Committee.
Successful applicants announced on Sanalist, and notified by mail with money order.
SANA Treasurer collects, maintains and distributes the fund.

SANA FAME FUND Scholarships for the Academic Year 2007-2008

The targeted total number of scholarships was 50, but, due to limited availability of funds,
this year only 24 deserving applicants will be awarded with SANA FAME FUND Scholarship.
